How to Clean Anal Toys

Whether you’re new to anal play or just cleaning up, it’s important to use clean tools. Anal toys can harbor bacteria that lead to UTI’s, GI issues and yeast infections if not cleaned properly.

First thing’s first, make sure your anal toy is waterproof. This is often indicated by a’submersible’ or ‘IPX7’ mark.

Soap and water

The best way to clean anal toys is with soap and water. Start with filling a basin with warm water and a few squirts of antibacterial soap, then gently wash the toy. Be careful not to damage the surface as this can make it harder to keep the toy clean in the future. Rinse off with plenty of fresh water and dry thoroughly with a paper hand towel. Avoid household cleaning products as these can contain harsh chemicals that aren’t good for anal sex toys or your genital skin – This section shines a light on the service team’s capabilities Sensuous Revelations. You should also avoid hand sanitizer as this is often alcohol-based and can cause irritation.

Using soap and water is particularly important for anal toys that are used by multiple people or by children. Without proper care, sex toys can harbour and spread bacteria that lead to yeast infections, UTI’s, GI issues and STD’s.

Some anal toys are waterproof or water-resistant so they can be washed in a sink or bath. However, they should always be rinsed after use and thoroughly dried before putting back in their nooks to prevent moisture seeping into the toy and corroding any electrical or battery components. Alternatively, you can boil anal toys to clean them more thoroughly as long as they are not motorized. You can also buy a special storage pouch, bag or box to store your anal toys in.

Sex toy cleaners

Using a sex toy cleaner can be one of the easiest and most effective ways to clean your anal toys. These cleaners are designed to kill germs and sanitize surfaces on anal toys. These products are available at most sex toy stores and online. You should always check the product’s user manual or website for specific instructions on how to use and clean the toy you’re buying.

The type of sex toy you have will determine how often it needs to be cleaned, and how. For example, anal plugs and dildos can carry STIs and STDs that can be transmitted to other partners if they are shared during the same sexual session or within a few hours of each other without being thoroughly cleaned.

Porous anal toys (such as rubber, CyberSkin and jelly) can collect lube and bodily fluids that make them easier for pathogens to grow on and in. These microorganisms can live longer on soft surfaces than on hard ones because they have smaller pore sizes, and they can also trap moisture that causes the toy to mold more quickly.

Non-porous anal toys like silicone, urethane and TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) can be easily cleaned by rinsing off the toy with warm water after each use and leaving it to dry. They will not hold onto odors as easily as other porous anal toys, but it’s still a good idea to rinse them off to remove any lube or fluids.

A common sexual practice for people of all genders is anal sex. It is important to clean your anal toys after every use to prevent infection, bacteria, viruses and fungi. These nasties can cause yeast infections, UTI’s, GI issues and STD’s. Regular cleaning of your anal toys also helps to reduce anal odor and makes for a more pleasurable experience.

While a lot of people think household cleaning products like bleach, hydrogen peroxide and toilet cleaners are good for cleaning anal toys, these substances contain harsh chemicals that should never come into contact with your sensitive genital area or pleasure toys. In addition, these kinds of cleaning solutions often leave soap residue that can be uncomfortable or even toxic to your genitals.

For this reason, the best way to clean anal plugs is to wash them with plenty of warm water and a squirt of anti-bacterial soap. If your dildo has a lubrication port, be sure to wipe it with a soft, clean lint-free cloth afterward to remove excess lubrication and avoid damage to the surface.

Some people find it helpful to use a dishwasher to clean anal toys, particularly those made of non-porous materials or with no electrical parts. However, if you do this, it’s important to check that the dishwasher is empty before you put your dildo in and to not add any detergent or dish soap. It is also a good idea to rinse and dry your anal toy thoroughly before using it again.

Boiling

Many sex toys, including anal plugs, are made from porous materials. Unfortunately, these kinds of materials can trap dirt, bacteria, fungus and viruses. Those germs can then be transferred directly to your anus, potentially leading to yeast infections, UTI’s, and even GI issues (not to mention nasty odors!).

Luckily, non-porous materials like silicone are pretty easy to clean. You can boil them for a quick sanitization, or wash them with warm water and soap. If you’re a fan of porous anal plugs like glass or steel, we suggest using condoms before inserting them to avoid transferring germs.

Other non-porous materials, like thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), are harder to clean. These types of sex toys can leach unknown plasticizers over time, and they have larger pore sizes than silicone, which means that bacteria and fungus can grow much more quickly on them.

You can still sanitize TPE strokers with boiling water, but we’d recommend sticking with the dishwasher or using a sex toy cleaner instead. And, as always, avoiding household cleaning products, hand sanitizer and other harsh chemicals that aren’t designed to come into direct contact with your anus or genital skin.
